AUTONEUM – Building an Enterprise Data Warehouse
Autoneum is the world's leading automotive supplier in the field of acoustic and thermal management in vehicles: The global BI project arose as part of the implementation of SAP R/3 and the resulting global and cross-departmental reporting requirements . The options were SAP BW, Oracle, and Microsoft . After a comprehensive evaluation involving the CFO , the Finance & Controlling , HR , IT , and Purchasing departments , the decision – also from a strategic corporate perspective – was in favor of a global Microsoft Enterprise Data Warehouse and Microsoft BI in general .
"I see the great benefit of IBCS in the standardization and harmonization of our Board of Management and management reporting across the entire Autoneum Holding. The number of reports and thus the time required to create them have been reduced by 50%."
ROGER STURZENEGGER, HEAD GLOBAL MDM & BI, AUTONEUM
The solution at a glance
Given these conditions, the goals for the global BI project were also largely clearly defined. A key objective was to create a standardized, interactive, and consistent BI reporting and self-service BI landscape , global and based on Microsoft technology .
The focus was on the ability to analyze data across functions and departments . Therefore, data from accounting, consolidation, cost accounting, and production was initially loaded into the Enterprise Data Warehouse (E-DWH) . Based on this, a centralized OLAP data mart was created for power users and ad hoc analyses. Additional data marts are being derived from the E-DWH for specific requirements. This ensures the "single point of truth" principle is consistently maintained.
