Denner AG is the leading discount retailer in Switzerland and is represented throughout the country. Through approximately 840 Denner outlets – including 570 Denner-owned stores and 270 partner stores – Denner AG serves approximately 140 million customers annually . The company currently employs approximately 5,800 people and trains 130 apprentices . In total, Denner stocks over 100,000 items from approximately 2,800 suppliers worldwide.

This order marked the beginning of our successful collaboration with Denner AG in 2014.

Our client at Denner AG – CFO Adrian Bodmer and CIO Manuel Fondo – pursued the vision of introducing a new cash register system in a short period of time and simultaneously establishing a company-wide KPI reporting system .
This should enable the use and analysis of management-relevant data across departments .

The biggest challenge for the project team was to prepare the article data generated by the POS system in such a way that it was centrally available and comparable across the entire value chain .

The solution for Denner AG

With our solution, the data model was designed so that highly aggregated data can be analyzed directly down to the article levelwithout media breaks .

Thanks to XL3 and XL3-Web , Denner AG is now able to provide around 1,000 employees with consistent and, if necessary, highly granular data .
Both the specific requirements of controlling and those of operational areas such as purchasing and sales are covered by a comprehensive data model.

Customer benefit

From over 180 rigid reports, a portfolio of 30 dynamic standard reports was developed for Denner AG.
These include, among others:

- A supplier meeting report with different views and levels of detail

- A price/quantity/mix report that displays information from selling price (OP) to net margin at item level

- A performance report for daily, weekly and monthly performance measurement of the sales outlets

This approach led to significantly increased effectiveness and efficiency and enabled controlling to invest more time in interpreting the data and less in preparing it .

The standardized data catalog and integrated control create the basis for better managing Denner AG in the digital age and for the targeted further development of existing analytical capabilities .
